swiss gear canopy nice product

last october 2008I rented an heavy duty canopy 10feet by 15 feet.it was compact and durable. that heavy duty canopy was expensive to rent. so this year 2009 for our party we decided to buy a Swiss gear smart shade because it had nice reviews.This swiss gear canopy is light enough to roll easly with its included bag.When new it needed two people for the canopy to open to full but now after a few uses it is easly done by one person. its a well thought out canopyi know because i rented the commersial type before. That party day has rain and light wind. what a life saver to have this canopy.The picture on display is wrong... it has 6 legs not 4.its more durable this way. Swiss gear made its legs adjustable to different heightswhich is great for putting on its canopy on the frame.Once on you can raise the whole unit very high over your head.The legs have push release buttons easy lock/unlock for its height.The canopy is held on to the frame by velcrovery nice.No parts to get lost.The canopy is water resistenteasy to cleannice travel bag with a little extra room just in case you can't fold its canopy just right back inside .Swiss gear unit Can be used on cement or grassshould last a long time. Not bad.

I bought this last week and set it up once. It's not my first instant canopy. My last one was not a Bravo Weekender; it broke due to rust after 2 years of use (maybe used it 12 times a year for 1 or 2 days at a time).



Not sure why the other ratings on this canopy are so low other than it might be due to the fact that Bravo has redesigned the canopy and the older design might not have been as good? A friend has the exact same model but his is older. His has push pin locks the new design has pull-pin locks. There are other more subtle differences as well but I don't think they are to do with durability. The new design has a more rounded top due to a diffent upper frame. I think this might help shed water better without rain water building up in pools on the lower part of the roof fabric. Water pooling in the lower part of the roof fabric was also a problem with my last canopy. That is occasionally had to push the canopy up from the inside to shed the pooled water if it was raining. I haven't tried this new canopy yet in the rain so time will tell if it's any better than my last.



This canopy is easy to setup and take down. One person can do it without too much difficulty but easier with two people. It's also easy to get back into the storage bag which is important to me. It seems well made and durable. Of course it won't stand up to heavy winds but no canopy intended for temporary shelter would. I don't understand the low ratings other have left. This is a very nice canopy much better than my old one that I had for 2 years. It's perfect for camping trips and that's exactly what I use it for. Great quality for the price

I installed this shade sail over a courtyard that gets a lot of direct sun. In fact prior to putting up the shade being in the courtyard anytime after mid morning was uncomfortable. That has changed with this shade.



I think this shade sail is a bargain. The material is thicker and stronger than I expected and the hardware provided is very good quality stainless steel. I expect this shade will last a long time.

To Whoof or not to whoof that is the question

This is a must have if you live within the city limits have fussy or close neighbors in proximity to your yard or have a strict home owners association that prohibits excessive dog barking. I am a lab breeder and own 3 of these units. I am very pleased with the performance and function of this product because it stops "nuisance barking" by administering a minimal buzz that gradually gets stronger the longer the dog barks the lowest setting delivers your common "prankster hand buzzer" volt. And if your too squeamish about buzzing your dog there is a "lemon spray" version of this exact brand that also works well too. Instead of delivering a buzz it puffs a lemon deterant near the snout. For more stubborn dogs the buzzer seems to work better. In no way is this harmful to your dog but rather more humane discipline than verbal or physical correction by you the owner. I believe all dogs are pleasers and want you to be happy with them. If your dog doesn't have a bark collar most people tend to over correct or not be completely steady in the level of correction being a swat on the hind end hopefully nothing more abusive or other methods. The end result is your dog barks when your not around. That's why these collars work so well it adjusts and corrects only as needed and with as little force as needed and will never over correct or over punish like we humans sometimes do when we're angry or sleep deprived due to a BARKING DOG!!!! By using this bark collar the dog in a sence is making a choice whether or not it wants to continue barking incesantly which is a much better training technique. This collar will still allow them to bark don't get me wrong but the ongoing nuisance barking will cease. These collars work great and allow more opportunities for us to reward the dogs for good behavior instead of correcting them for barking constantly. You'll love your dog more and he'll love you more too by being a good owner and keeping everyone happy. large rain / sun canopy good for contractors

I use it over my miter saw or table saw at jobsites. I manage to put it up by myself - but it is nice when you have a helper. I have the one that is slightly oblong (10x12 feet) and I like the larger area. It looks better than a blue tarp over my cutting area.



The stakes are pretty useless I bought longer heavier ones from an outdoor store. When I leave at night if I don't want to take it down or lower it to halfway (which is a good idea) I put a single 8 ft. 2x4 up to support the center from the inside and then tie a rope up to the center (also from the inside) and attach the other end of the rope to my saw stand or to something placed in the center. The 2x4 braces the canopy up and allows you to then crank down on the ropes to keep the canopy from lifting up and blowing away.



This isn't the heaviest duty canopy but the size is good and the quality is decent for the price. It's nice that the duffel has wheels for portability.More detail ...

Nice Shade Great Price

Our local store was selling this for twice Amazon's price so the price was great. Installation went okay I suppose. Overall it wasn't too difficult except they wanted the hole for the post to be 2ft diameter by 4ft deep ... any idea how hard it is to dig a hole with those dimensions? Would have been MUCH easier with an auger but didn't want the added expense. Now that the sail is up though it's great and I highly recommend for a quicker cheaper option than building a covered porch or pergola. Also it comes down really easily when the Oklahoma winds pick up which is a plus.More detail ...

good overall but not strong enough

I am using it as additional covered area for large garden tools. Pros -stands up to wind very easy to put up - one person can do it two people would be better; carrying bag is a plus- especially if you have a dog who is impatient and decides to unpack the shipping box. He ripped the box the carrying case and then got tired which saved the canopy from getting damaged ;-)



Cons - the fabric sags a bit and after rain it creates a puddle of water that then leaks through. So I put two coats of water-proof spray - it reduced but not completely fixed the problem. Then one day I looked at it and it was bent way too low -- the light frame could not hold the weight of the water in that "puddle" of water and bent the horizontal support pieces. It still stands but I use tarps to cover most valuable items under it. Would not buy it again. It should be good for short trips to the beach market sales etc. and you have to fold it after the use. Almost perfect...

Bought this in May 2006 for $99.99 with free shipping from Amazon LLC. Well packed and quickly shipped. Carry bag is fairly sturdy and has an expansion zipper that makes for easy packing of the pieces and allows the possiblity of carrying other things in the bag with the shelter. Instructions are water-resistant coated and are permanently attached to the top inside of the carry bag so they can't be misplaced. They include a contents list and easily understood and well layed out set up instructions. Inside bag are a seperate bag for poles and another for stakes. Product description lists 5 shock-corded poles but there are actually 15 of various sizes that join with heavy ABS plastic connectors to form a geodesic dome. Poles are powder-coated steel with spring-loaded steel cable shock-cords. Poles have steel spring tabs that lock into the ABS connector slots. 10 stakes are included 5 steel wire for securing the legs and 5 high impact plastic for securing the guy ropes. Canopy is light to medium rip stop nylon with tabs for the included nylon guy ropes and a nylon strap/buckle set-up on the ends to secure the canopy to the legs. Velcro tabs secure the inside top of canopy to the dome. Set-up takes about 20-30 minutes depending upon how much "help" you have. I have mostly used this on the beach (pic in customer photo area). It easily withstands constant winds of 20 mph and has weathered gusts up to 50 mph without any problems while anchored in sand. I would have rated it a 5 but the powder-coating on the poles is pretty weak and was worn off on the ends after the first use . I rinse mine with fresh water after returning home and treat them with a rust-inhibitor after they dry but this will be the first thing to fail eventually. Will probably end up trying to replace with carbon/graphite after they wear out. All in all this is by far the best of the 4 shade designs we have owned in the past 20 years.
